LG47LE5300 Review

LG 47LE5300 Review

The LG 47LE5300 is one of LG’s premium TVs and an impressively slim set considering its large size. LG have whittled this TV down to under 30mm wide through use of Edgelight LED, which also makes the image that bit sharper.

Like most LGs the LG 47LE5300 is an extremely attractive TV set and far surpasses much done by other manufacturers in the looks department. The TV has an attractively slim bezel and is a fine example of minimalist style with its single leg and attractive edging.

LG 47LE5300 Conectivity

LG have included all of the connectivity options you would expect from a TV in this range and more. The set comes with a 4HDMI ports for making as much use as you can from the 1080p ratio, as well as USB for your photos and downloaded films and VGA, Scart and composite connection points for whatever else you would wish to connect to the set.

LG 47LE5300 Intelligent Sensor

LG have also included the second generation of its Intelligent Sensor technology on the TV. This sensor will detect the light availability in the room and then alters the settings of the TV to ensure they are optimised for the surroundings. It works extremely well and we must say we were very impressed.

LG 47LE5300 Picture

LG have also included a smattering of picture set up options if you wish to go about doing this yourself and include the Picture Wizard set up tool to aid your choices of contrast over the vast setting arena the TV offers. LG also include Freeview with a very good programme set up to ensure you never miss a programme again.

We were disappointed with the lack of either 3D or SMART functions on the set. For the price of the LG 47LE5300 either or both would have been nice and the lack of these features is a little disappointing considering many sub £500 TV’s have similar features.

TruMotion

The LG 47LE5300 does try and make up for this with the picture quality it offers. LG have included the TruMotion 100Hz technology with the set, this allows the TV to display extremely smooth pictures at a high refresh rate and so is excellent for fast paced scenes and sports.

HD Sources

The full 1080p display is excellent and the array of connectivity from HD sources will please many. We found the LG 47LE5300 to offer a clear and sharp image. We found the set to offer very good clarity from HD and BluRay sources and also to have excellent up scaling abilities for standard definition sources.

Colours and Black Levels

The set has a wide array of colours and manages to create sharp whites and believable blacks – unlike some other LGs. The LG 47LE5300 also manages to create realistic and non-muddled shadow detail – again not a common LG trait. This all goes so far as to ensure the set is a great primary set for watching films and other images on.

We found game lag to be pretty okay also, the set is well capable of churning out the fast needed processing that a set needs to play video games and would say it is quite good.

Overall the LG 47LE5300 is a very capable set, with some excellent abilities to produce HD and SD pictures. It however is both Internet and 3D free which does make it feel a little lacking. Aside from this it is a very nice TV for those who enjoy long nights in.

LG 47LW450U Review

The latest addition to the LED cinema range of TVs the LG LW450U uses the same passive technology we are used to seeing on the LW550T and is based around a backlight LED TV concept. However, unlike other sets there is less connectivity with this TV and it doesn’t have HbbTV or DLNA.

It also lacks a lot of ports and only has one USB port – which is a bit lacklustre considering the two in the 550T. This means you can’t connect media and an internet dongle at the same time, which is limiting. This does mean the TV is of a lower cost though, though for this we also only get 3XHDMI and not 4HDMI.

LG 47LW450U Display

The TV uses an IPS display and is a slim 35mm. It comes in a matte black finish and is quite an attractive set. It also comes with a number of glasses, which is always a plus with such a 3 set.

LGs media player as always is well laid out and offers support of most files, which is always nice. It supports Div X and MKV and all the codec’s that go with them.

Though the set uses similar, if not the same technology as the 550T , ghosting is more obvious and the  LG 47LW450U’s input lag is quite high, meaning gamers may be less than impressed when using the TV. Colours are accurately reproduced and the only real problem comes with the blue tint on grey colours. This can all be tuned to near eradication as can anything else.

We found the HD image quality to be excellent and it smoothes out fast flying objects very well. Up-scaling was also quite decent for SD and DVD.

LG 47LW450U 3D picture

So, what’s the 3D like? Well its lower quality than the active as it involves two pictures dragged across each other and halves the HD. This means it lacks a little naturally. However it is quite good, once you get over the narrow angles of such a set. We found LG to suffer a little ghosting, though it was quite a good 3D set.

LG 47LW450U Audio

The audio, is typical for a set like this and is quite low quality with little bass. It’s fine for TV watching, however is a bit poor for films and a set of speakers would be a well purchased investment.

Overall the TV is quite a decent one and has attractive 2D and 3D pictures, good glasses and a nice display with a good media player. However there is a lack of connectivity and the contrast ration is not up to scratch. Though its price makes it a very alluring prospect.

LG 47LV550T picture

LG 47LV550T Review

Televisions of 47 inches are large enough for even the most regal of rooms and the LG47LV550T is a fine example of a large television that is ideal for these occasions. The TV is a huge LED number with 1080p capabilities.

For its size the set is not overly slim, however it is a basic but good looking set with a nice bezel and a good picture as we will discuss later.

The set comes with LED technology, meaning it is thinner and offers better pictures than the older LCD sort of television. He TV comes with the excellent MCI 500Hz technology which stimulates but doesn’t give actual refresh rates of 500Hz – however it runs very smoothly all the same.

LG 47LV550T Images

The TruMotion technology, seen in many more expensive LG sets is a great offering and works wonders on football and other such fast paced pictures. The Smart capabilities of the set are great and its ability to up standard definition and reduce picture noise and fuzz works well on YouTube and other internet orientated clips.

This feature also is evident in the USB film downloads we played on the TV, which were a vast amount better than on other similar priced sets.

LG 47
LV550T Freeview HD

The TV also has a Freeview HD tuner which is a great bonus as standard definition wouldn’t cu the mustard on a TV of this size. This HD offers a number of high definition terrestrial channels for free and when added to the Smart TV features, it is questionable why you would ever need to use a expensive satellite connection again.

The LG 47LV550T is well connected with 4HDMI, a VGA and all the other connection options you would expect on a TV of this price. The set also comes with LG’s Picture Wizard option, which is great for setting up the picture to its best if you’re not sure what each setting is for.

LG 47LV550T Bright and Darks

The picture at is best is very good, especially in bright scenes and the colour choice and the extent of the whites and their sharpness is evident. However it is a tale of two halves and the dark images lack a bit and are quite poor, with little shadow detail. This along with the speakers let the set down, they lack bass and aren’t in anyway dynamic.

Overall the TV is a tidy piece of kit for its price and we would recommend it

There are five other sound modes and tone controls for precise adjustment to your personal preference. LG’s popular Clear Voice II is on hand to help make dialogue clear during busy scenes and congested soundtracks – parts where it can sometimes be tricky to make out dialogue. While it’s certainly no match for a separate AV system, the onboard system certainly performs well for being a built-in system.

Connectivity Options
In addition to all of the amazing features, the 47LE5300 has a good range of sockets, giving you the best connectivity options available. With four HDMI ports partnered by USB, SCART, component and RGB PC inputs for full compatibility with all of your favorite multimedia sources, new or old. TruMotion 100Hz
This LG is a sleek TV set that has been designed to bring the best in picture quality. This TV also comes with TruMotion 100Hz software to reduce the occurrence of image blur during fast moving scenes, and the True 24p cinema playback allows you to watch an action film at the same exhilarating speed that it was played in the theater.

This TV is also great for catching your entire list of favorite sporting events, sitcoms, daytime television and more! Also, if you are the only one watching TV and don’t want to disturb the other members of your household, just plug your headphones into the headphone jack!

With the available parental lock, you control access to the TV and can prevent your children from watching things that aren’t appropriate. The TV comes with a USB port and can play DivX HD, MP3 and Jpeg files.

LG 47LE5900 Review

LGs love for innovation and their use of new technology has seen the company push itself to the top of the TV industry. We’re all used to seeing LG, who once were a bit of a sideline company, take centre stage and become a big player.

The new LG47LE5900 offers a set in this spirit and is one of the new style LED edge light LCD TVs we’ve heard so much about. These sets have LCD screens but LED lights on the edges to give a better and more rounded picture.

LG 47LE5900 Connectivity

The LG 47LE5900 is by no means an unattractive TV and its quite conventional shape is given a lift with a nice bright tint to its colour and its frame is quite attractive because of this. The set is well connected, in a way that European TV buyers may not be accustomed to. The TV has 4HDMI, a Scart, VGA and 2 composite ports – something we’re usually not accustomed to. It also allows for USB connection and offers support for most file types, which allows those who download from PC to USB to playback in comfort.

LG 47LE5900 Freeview HD

LG has also included Freeview HD on the TV, which is a nice addition and really adds to the everyday watching of the TV.

The user interface for this playback is excellent and offers the LG user interface excellence we are now used to. The TV comes with a carousel type wheel menu and is clear and intuitive. The TV’s Internet ready interface is one of the tile type and once again is far from bland but in no way confusing. LG has included a number of widgets for direct access to media players and apps and it comes with the option of downloading many more of these.

LG 47LE5900 Setup

LG is well known for offering wonderfully customisable sets that offer the user the chance to set the picture up to inches of perfection, though just not perfection. This LG 47LE5900 is one of those TVs and we got as close to excellent with a number of the settings as is humanely possible, though it just falls slightly short of excellence. The TV also includes the option to use the Picture Wizard technology we love with LGs – this technology explains what each setting does and the effect raising it or lowering it has on the TV – great for those not used to setting up TVs

The LG LE5900 is perfect in so many ways. We found the choice of colours to be more than apt and very accurate and the range of grey scaling available to be excellent. The TV also comes with the TruMotion processing option, which allows for smooth motion; however setting this high makes the pictures appear a little artificial and greasy. The TV has a refresh rate of 100Hz and this creates quite smooth images anyhow.

LG 47LE5900 Picture

Pictures and colours are as dynamic as you wish for them to be. The LG is just as good with dank scenes as it is with the bright imagination like lands of children’s TV. It is also very good with standard definition images and prevents noise to a good level. One issues does come with leakage during contrasting scenes, it is very clear to see where the LED lights are places. The TV also suffers from a bit of input lag when playing games and it will be obvious to seasoned gamers where the limitations lie.

Overall the LG LE5900 is a nice looking TV with a number of very good features, but also a number of limitations. We would nearly recommend it whole heartedly, but logic tells us not to. It is a good TV not a great TV.
