LG LE3300 Review

LED TV sets were once big bucks, however due to Moore’s law the technology used in these sets has dwindled down to the average user and the LG LE3300 offers the benefits of back-lighting to all. The LG is a 19,22, 26 or 32 inch HD Ready set.

The TV itself isn’t in anyway a bad looking set and bears a similarity to the other LGs of a similar budget price. The TV utilises the LED backlighting around the edge to offer a TV that is only 34mm thick.

LG LE3300  Connectivity

Connectivity wise the set offers 2HDMI, a VGA, composite, Scart socket and others. However this leads to a problem, the slim set is ideal for wall mounting yet most of the connections seem to come right out of the back of the LG LE3300, showing a distinct lack of logic on LG’s part.

The set does come with Standard Definition Freeview – nothing more or less than expected in this area. This makes the TV perfect as a replacement for an older CRT model or a TV that utilises an old aerial and needs to be replaced during the big switchover to digital.

LG LE3300 LED Screen

Though most of us buy LED as a substitute for older LCD screens, though the backlighting allows the set to be slimmer, it is expected that the LG LE3300 should also have a better picture. However in the case of the LG LE3300 this could not be said to be the case.

The LG LE3300 has a notably poor contrast ratio and the colour looks extremely dull and is not in any way dynamic. Blacks are very poor unless brightness is lowered and this takes away from any dynamism the TV has.

Setting the TV’s brightness at a midpoint is best though means the LG offers dull whites  and no depth in its blacks – this suggests that large contrast numbers mean nothing if the LG LE3300 is poorly made.

LG LE3300 Picture

The LG does offer decent BluRay performance in terms of movement, even if colour is a little stale. It is a perfectly smooth and watchable TV, though a bit bland. Another upside is the up scaling, compared to competitors in this price bracket the TV offers great SD up scaling of images and brings out the best in DVDs and there is little noise on screen.

The speakers are also surprisingly good, something LED TVs don’t usually achieve and we were impressed by the bass considering the slender 34mm size of the set.

Overall the LG is flawed, though does have some good points. For its price it is a perfectly capable if a little bit bland.
