Sony Bravia KDL46EX703U Review

Sony have been up and around the top of the television market for a long time now and have certainly learned a thing or two. The Sony Bravia
KDL46EX703U is their latest attempt at a great edge light TV with a bundle of features included. The new Sony is a slim set, though does seem a little bit thicker than minute judging from its sizeable top bezel.

The set is attractive, aside from the silver edge which will divide many people’s idea of whether the Sony is a looker or not.

Sony Bravia KDL46EX703U Connectivity

Sony have given the TV plenty of connectivity and unlike other manufacturers have thought where is best to place the connections., With a pretty even amount between the back and the side of the TV. Of those the TV has 4 HDMI ports, a VGA, 2 Scarts, composite, audio and a number of others, as well as a USB port for playback of files.

Sony has also included a Freeview HD tuner with the TV which will please many and allows users to get the full 1080p out of the set at all times – which is always visually pleasing. The TV also comes with W-Fi and so Internet access, so giving access to a number of online catch-up services and Internet channels on the TV.

Sony Bravia KDL46EX703U Xross Media

Sony uses its Xross media bar for settings and we found no problems using it and would consider it a well thought out settings bar with a intuitive interface and an all round logical appeal. The settings can be moved to really do about anything from processing to contrasting, however colour settings are a little limited, which may be a hindrance to some users.

Sony Bravia KDL46EX703U Bravia 3

The TV offers excellent picture and the set is an attractive one to watch. For an edge light TV it offers very nice blacks that really are quite impressive. It is also a great TV as regards contrast. Motion blur is also dealt with quite well and the TV doesn’t seem to over process the picture allowing for realistic images, this is thanks to the excellent Bravia 3 Engine. The 100Hz refresh rate makes it ideal for sports and fast moving images.

The sets strongest point is its HD imagery, which to be honest looks fantastic. It looks clear, without any sort of alteration and no unnecessary sharpening. Colours looked realistic and saturation was very good. Standard definition let the TV down however and it just seemed a little poorly in this area. Noise reduction isn’t very evident and ironically it is the weakest part of the TV considering the quality of the HD .

Sony Bravia KDL46EX703U  - Good for Gaming

Gaming on the TV is quite good and above average with a 31ms delay. This brings the TV up in our estimations and surprised us as Sony usually make poor TVs as regards gaming lag. Audio on the TV wasn’t amazing, but no worse than the average for a TV such as this.

Overall it is a great TV for HD, looks okay, but is well built, though lacks in SD up scaling which for some will really have a large effect.
